It was a new years resolution to eat healthy and I absolutely had no excuse when my parents bought me an amazing Hurom juicer for christmas. With this juicer, and the fact I have so many kitchen appliances like blenders etc thank to The L’s Papa, I was armed with all the accessories I needed for a healthier lifestyle.
For me it wasn’t about losing weight, although I still had a little bit of mummy tummy I wanted banished but more for how I was actually feeling in myself. I wanted more energy, I wanted to feel less lethargic, I wanted to “glow” with pure utter healthiness. Ok so I am going a tad overboard there but really, this was what I wanted.
I’m not going to lie, its not massively easy to drink a fresh juice everyday as the whole job itself requires some serious washing up afterwards, and I get a little lazy on that front from time to time due to having a dishwasher, but once you are in the swing of things it honestly makes you feel so much better.
I juice things like raw beetroot, mint, ginger, carrots, spinach along with the usual culprits of oranges and apples. I like to add limes or lemons for a citrus kick and in my mind a little extra detox. I put into one juice that I probably couldn’t manage to eat in a day. Especially as I tend to have vegetables or salad with my meals anyway. All of this extra goodness had to do something.
I won’t give you any illusions, don’t think that this will happen over night. One juice is not going to make you feel fabulous. I had these massive expectations when I first started juicing. That I instantly was going to feel amazing. It doesn’t work like that. But I have increased my intake massively and overall I am really starting to see the benefits.
I don’t feel bloated. I feel that my skin looks refreshed and not grey like it was starting to. I genuinely feel better in myself. I don’t feel as tired as the day goes on. I try and have a juice or smoothie every morning as an alternative to breakfast. Only because I am just not a massive breakfast person. I make my morning juice with whatever I can get my hands on. I have a Jason Vale book which has so many ideas. I tried the 3 day detox but I couldn’t stand the taste of celery and peppers in my juice. It’s not for everyone. But the likes of raw beetroot, carrot and ginger are surprisingly lovely accompaniments to apples and oranges.
Have you tried juicing before? Do you have any recommendations on what you use in your juices? I strongly urge anyone thinking about it to give it a try.
